NLSchools is a branch of the Department of Education - Government of Newfoundland and Labrador administering primary, elementary and secondary educational services throughout the province. It provides educational services to approximately 65,000 school age children, from K-12, and covers the entire province.

NLSchools is seeking applications for term substitute positions in areas that are remote and/or have a low substitute pool.  These term substitutes will support a school or system of schools and provide support as required, i.e. serving as replacements for vacancies, absences, and assignment of other teaching and learning duties as required.  The sub will be allocated to one school location but will service other schools within that system.  

As a teacher, your work will focus on the application of the 7 Determinants of the School Development Model which are: Wellness and Positive Relationships; Optimal Learning Environments; Instructional Practice; Assessment Practices; Collective Efficacy; Evidence-based Decision Making, and Teachers as Learners.

Successful candidates will be able to:

  • Engage professionally with colleagues, families and communities
  • Demonstrate the planning and implementation of effective and responsive teaching and learning practices
  • Provide evidence of how to shape a safe and positive learning environment for students and families
  • Demonstrate a love of learning and an ability to build learner and leadership capacity
  • Provide evidence and understanding of the impact of effective assessment practices

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must have successfully completed the appropriate Bachelor of Education program. 

SALARY AND INCENTIVES:

  • Annual Salary Scale contained within the NLTA Provincial Collective Agreement and benefits contained within the agreement.
  • Please note, the following incentives are prorated if a teacher works less than a full school year:
  • A taxable $2000.00 Isolation Allowance paid to all Labrador teachers. Please refer to Article 24.02 of the Collective Agreement.
  • Round Trip Travel for non permanent employees  in and out of the school community to your home location, to a maximum of $1700.00.
  • Subsidized housing units may be available in Labrador City and Wabush.
  • A Labrador Allowance and Travel Allowance calculated based on school location and dependants. The bonus is prorated if a teacher works less than a full school year or if not full time.  Please follow the link for details. (Estimated Value of $4500.00)
