In mid-June, Grade 12 students at Jens Haven Memorial School in Nain hosted an initiative dubbed 'Tasiuttilaunga - Send Me On My Way.' Adopted an idea an event seen in American schools that has been making the rounds on social media, graduating students donned their caps and gowns and paraded through the hallways of their lower-grade classmates, from Kindergarten on upwards. The aim of the event is to celebrate the academic accomplishments of graduates and, at the same time, inspire the younger students. The school community lined the hallways and cheered on the graduates as they marched through the halls. The school was bursting with excitement, enthusiasm and pride, as younger students created signs, banners and cards to congratulate and encourage the graduates. Also included in the celebration was a painting created by the Kindergarten class of 2003-04 - the same students who are graduating this year! It was a phenomenal way to end the school year, saying goodbye to these accomplished members of our school community and sending them on their way, while also motivating our younger students to stay in school and attain that goal of graduating themselves.
