This year 15 students from Bay d'Espoir Academy started the school year with a focus – to increase awareness and support for the LGBTQ community in their school. With the help of their teachers Mrs. Garden and Ms. Oliver, the students formed a group they called the Respect Alliance.
Students quickly decided that their first goal was to create two gender neutral washrooms in the High School building. A letter was written to the administration asking for permission and was quickly granted. In late October, the Bay d'Espoir Academy Respect Alliance revealed the change. Students can now decide which washroom they would like to use and not which binary gender to which they may adhere.
