The Forest Service Branch of the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agrifoods has selected Phoenix Academy Grade 6 student Braeden Mouland as the provincial winner of the 2016 National Forest Week Poster contest. Under the theme of True North Strong and Green – Celebrating Canada’s Forests, Braeden’s poster was selected from 285 entries from 20 schools across the province. For his winning poster, Braeden received an Ipad Mini and case, as well as a Smokey the Bear gift pack. The school also received a library book gift pack valued at $500 and a framed copy of Braeden’s poster.

Other winners of the contest included Jadyn Bragg at Cape St. Francis Elementary in Pouch Cove and Eva Parr at Pasadena Elementary on the west coast, who took second and third places, respectively. Each student received Ipod Nano and a Smokey the Bear gift pack.
