Heritage Day Contest Winners Announced

The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District is pleased to join with the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador in celebrating national Heritage Day (Monday, February 15, 2016). To mark the occasion, a number of representatives gathered for the announcement of this year's winners for the annual Heritage Day Poster Contest.

Grade 9 student Joshua Mack (pictured) of Beaconsfield Junior High in St. John's won both the Junior High category and Overall for his depiction of Fort Amherst National Historic Site.

Congratulations as well to all other winners:

  • Primary Candace Johannesen, Grade 3, Immaculate Heart of Mary School, Corner Brook for her depiction of Woody Point Lighthouse Municipal Heritage Site in Woody Point.
  • Elementary Mary Noftall, Grade 5, Rennie's River Elementary, St. John's for her depiction of Cabot Tower Classified Federal Heritage Building in St. John's.
  • Senior High Nicole Chaulk, Grade 11, Glovertown Academy, Glovertown for her depiction of the Kimberly Row Houses in St. John's.

Judges for the event included Margaret Walsh Best (artist and art educator); Debra A. Barnable (visual artist and consultant); and Michael Philpott (Built Heritage Officer with HFNL).
