Students and staff get into the spirit of the season with a traditional event, memmering.
On the last day of Christmas, Old Christmas Day (January 6), students and staff of St. Mary's All-Grade in Mary's Harbour, Labrador, participated in an hour long event celebrating the Christmas tradition of mummering. A traditional jig in the school gym, as well as games and sports activities were on the agenda. Principal Verna Brown says that she is very proud of this initiative by the school's Student Council, which shows school and community spirit. It was also nice to see the students enjoy a tradition which has been slowly falling by the wayside. Hopefully, this initiative can rejuvenate some interest in this traditional part of our culture by the younger generation.
