Students and staff at Waterford Valley High came together this month to honour a former teacher who passed away suddenly in 2016. Danny King was commonly known as DK, an avid rugby player and coach. Mr. King was known to be a tough as bones player on the field but a kind and empathetic educator in other areas of his life. Principal Bridget Ricketts said King helped many students find a passion for the sport, passing on his love and knowledge as a couch at Bishops College, WVH, Swilers RFC and The Rock. A year to the day that Mr. King passed (January 17), a number of family, friends, colleagues, and teammates came together at the school to play a winter scrimmage of rugby and celebrate the life of an amazing individual. Students also took the opportunity to sell commemorative wrist bands to remember Mr. King, with proceeds earmarked for the local SPCA.
