It is a special opportunity when a former student can revisit a teacher from their past who has made a profound impact on their life. Even more unique is that opportunity when the two individuals can come together as colleagues. That is just what music teachers Anne Whelan and Robert Colbourne did recently when they brought their two choirs together to compete in the 2018 Kiwanis Music Festival in Carbonear.
Whelan, who has lead Carbonear Collegiate's music and drama program for a number of years, had previously instructed Colbourne, who went on to complete degrees in Education and now teachers at Holy Heart High School, essentially following in Whelan's footsteps. As the years have passed, the two have remained in close contact, culminating in a collaboration years in the making. The local paper, the Compass, was on hand at the Festival recently and profiled the musical pair and what they have achieved together in bringing two unique choirs to create beautiful music.
