A special meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District will take place at the District Conference Centre, 40 Strawberry Marsh Road, St. John’s, at 12 noon on Monday, August 5, 2019. 

The meeting is being held to consider a Board motion to reconfigure Basques Memorial All Grade in Red Bay from a K-12 school to a K-6 school, effective September 2019. Grades 7-12 students would be transferred to Labrador Straits Academy in L’anse au Loup. This reconfiguration comes at the request of the school community, where parents unanimously agreed to transfer the older students, citing better programming opportunities, more extra-curricular activities, and increased social interaction with peers.
