The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District has advised its administrators and school staff in the St. John’s Metro area to suspend extra-curricular and co-curricular activities in all K-12 schools, effective immediately.
This change is the result of a Special Measures Order issued today (Monday, February 8) by the Province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, and is in effect for at least two weeks.
“This is an unfortunate measure, but a prudent step being taken in the best interest of student and staff health and public safety,” said Tony Stack, CEO/Director of Education. “The District continues to rely on medical advice from Public Health with respect to decisions made around the operation of schools during the Covid-19 health emergency.”
The District will continue to work with public health officials and school administrators to inform our school communities, and the public, of any updates as they become available. Resources and information are available from the District’s website www.nlesd.ca and social media Twitter feed (@NLESDCA).
