2026-2027 Bus Registration
At NLSchools, our top priority is to provide student transportation that is safe, efficient, and reliable, while offering greater flexibility for families. As part of our ongoing efforts to improve our school busing system, we are introducing a new Student Transportation Registration process.

This process will be launched initially in a select number of schools as part of a Phase One rollout. This approach will allow us to gather feedback and make any necessary improvements before expanding the program to all schools.

We will continue to keep schools and families informed throughout the rollout and will provide regular updates as the process progresses. We appreciate your cooperation and support as we work to enhance the transportation experience for all students.

2. Registration Guide
If your student plans to ride the school bus for the start of the upcoming school year, registration is required.

Registration forms can only be accessed through a Parent Portal Account. For instructions on how to set up a Parent Portal Account, select TAB #3.

There are two (2) different registration forms, depending on the student's circumstances:

  • Inside Catchment: Where a student's home address is located within the catchment of the school they are attending
  • Outside Catchment: Where a student's home address is located outside the catchment of the school they are attending
In addition to the 2 registration forms, for situations where a student resides at 2 addresses due to a shared custody arrangement, a Shared Custody form can be submitted.

To determine if your student's home address is located inside or outside their school's catchment, in your Parent Portal, click My Students, select student name from the drop-down list. Bussed eligibility indicates the student lives within the school's catchment. Out of Bounds eligibility indicates the student lives outside the school's catchment.

3. How to Create a Parent Portal Account

  5. If there are no students showing on the My Students page, it is because the email address used to create the parent portal account is not listed in your student's contact information in PowerSchool. Please contact the student's school administration to update your student's contact information in PowerSchool. 24 hours after updating this information in PowerSchool, please check your parent portal again for connected student(s). If student(s) are still not showing in your account, please submit a Student Transportation Public Inquiry Form for further assistance.

Using the Parent Portal, parents and guardians submit a registration form for each student. The Student Transportation Division reviews the submission and, if approved, arranges transportation based on the provided information.

Eligibility is based on existing criteria - home address, school, and catchment area. Registering confirms your intent to ride; it does not impact or determine eligibility.

Registration for the upcoming school year opens on the first Monday in May.

Yes. Registration is required each year to confirm that transportation is still needed.

There are no strict deadlines, but certain timelines may affect processing time and outcomes. Please refer to the What to Expect section for details.

Yes. A Parent Portal account gives access to student information, but a separate transportation registration form must still be completed each year.

The email used to create your account may not match what's on file in PowerSchool. Ask your school administration to update your contact information. Allow ~24 hours, then check again. If students still don't appear, email busregistration@nlschools.ca.

Yes - one primary and one consistent secondary address. Schedules must be maintained week to week. Requests beyond this are not supported.

An Outside Catchment form can be submitted, but approval is not guaranteed. Requests are reviewed only after all eligible in-catchment students are accommodated, and depend on available space and route feasibility. No additional stops will be added outside the catchment. See What to Expect for details.

Contact the school administration to update the address in PowerSchool. If transportation arrangements also change, submit a new registration form as soon as possible.

Submit a Shared Custody form. Both addresses must be within the school's catchment and the schedule must be consistent week to week. If the schedule changes, submit a new form - allow up to 10 business days for processing.

Unfortunately, transportation is only provided within a school's catchment area.

Possibly. An Outside Catchment application can be submitted for a childcare location within the school's catchment. Terms and conditions apply - see the What to Expect section.

Yes. A different pick-up and drop-off stop can be selected at registration, but the same schedule must be maintained consistently week to week.

Temporary or short-term changes are generally not accommodated. Routes are built around consistent, registered needs.

Yes, provided the arrangement is consistent, the daycare is within the school's catchment, and the facility is provincially licensed (documentation required). Contact BusRoutes@NLSchools.ca to request a stop.

Processing times vary by form type and submission timeframe. See the What to Expect section for detailed timelines.

No. Transportation follows the registered plan regardless of schedule changes. Families should have contingency plans in place.

Scroll to the top of the page and look for a loading symbol (wait for it to submit) or a red error bar. Common errors: a required field is blank, the wrong form type was used (Inside vs. Outside Catchment), the address is outside the catchment, or reCAPTCHA is incomplete. If the problem persists, submit a Student Transportation Public Inquiry Form.

Contact the school administration to correct the information in PowerSchool. Allow 24 hours, then try the registration form again.

Possibly. Unused seats may be reassigned to ensure efficient allocation. You can always re-register if transportation is needed in the future.

If your student is currently enrolled in the last grade level at their school, you will need to change both the new grade and new school in the registration form to reflect what it will be for the next school year. For example, if your student is currently in Grade 8, Villanova Junior High, you will need to change the form to be Grade 9, Holy Spirit High.
